Flamenco is not one thing, and this Perth outfit spends a show proving it, moving through dance styles from different regions of Spain. The music sits alongside the dancing rather than behind it, drawing on Spanish, Latin and flamenco repertoire. Audiences get pulled in too, with short dance and music lessons worked into the performance. You can book it small, as a solo or duo dancing to recorded music, or step up to a trio, or bring the full troupe with two dancers, guitarist, vocalist and percussionist playing live. A show that travels through flamenco properly, taking in dance styles from a spread of Spanish regions rather than presenting the one familiar version of it. It is not a performance you sit back and watch from a distance either. Short dance and music lessons are built into the show itself, so guests end up having a go at the steps and the rhythms. Line-ups start with a single dancer, or a pair, performing to recorded music. From there it steps up to a trio, and at the top end the full troupe arrives with live musicians: two dancers, a guitarist, a vocalist and a percussionist. Between those there is usually a shape that fits the room and the running order you have. Audience participation can be worked in, and workshops are available if you ask for them.
