Piano, and a set pitched at whatever the evening is doing. Gentle and easy listening for a dinner, jazzier and more up-beat when the room wants lifting. It sits particularly well under a wedding reception, where music has to hold the atmosphere without competing with conversation. There's another option for corporate events after something less usual: a full concert style piano recital, played as a performance in its own right rather than background.
An acoustic piano at the venue is the preference, so it's worth checking what's already in the room before you book. For a classical recital, a grand piano on site isn't a preference, it's a requirement, and the concert programme doesn't work without one.
Beyond solo piano, there's a jazz trio of piano, bass and drums. A saxophone player or a vocalist can join either shape if you want another voice in the mix.
