Ten years of gigging as the main income teaches you how to make the whole thing easy for the person hiring you. For a regular pub or function booking, Matt Kairl turns up and gets it done. For a wedding he'll get on the phone or email first and work through the details, because aisle music and a first dance are not things you improvise. He'll learn songs for those moments. The list already stretches from Ain't No Sunshine and Better Be Home Soon to Blank Space, Banana Pancakes and The Band Played Waltzing Matilda. He's a guitarist and singer working solo, in a duo or trio, and he loops. All the PA comes with him, including a battery powered rig for a beach ceremony with no power in sight.

What to expect
Ten years of doing this as the actual job has taught Matt how to make the booking easy on you. A pub gig or a straightforward function, he turns up, plays, and you don't have to think about it. Special instructions are fine, just say so. Weddings work differently. He'll get you on the phone or send an email first and go through the detail, because the walk down the aisle and the first dance are moments you only get once and they need agreeing in advance, not on the day.
On the day
Matt owns the whole PA, so there's no equipment for you to chase. Power is the ideal, and for a reception where the sound needs to fill a room he'll need access to it. But he also runs a battery powered rig for spots with nothing to plug into, which is what makes a ceremony on the sand workable. Tell him where you're standing and he'll bring the right one.
