The act
Barefoot, no makeup, two decades on stage, and nothing put on for show. Alexis Star plays folk, indie, pop and rock from the 70s to today, reworked her own way, plus two albums of originals released as Rachel Laing. Expect Fleetwood Mac and Elvis, Ed Sheeran, Vance Joy and Alanis Morissette. The volume is pitched to the room and watched all night, and she'll tell you plainly that she dresses in a comfortable bohemian style, so mention your dress code when you book. Based on the Gold Coast; solo suits a wedding ceremony or the drinks, and with DJ sets added she carries the day from the vows to the reception, or the whole night. In 2018 she packed a van and took the show around the country, playing festivals and private events along the way.

What to expect
Once you book, a booking sheet comes through by email to fill in and send back. The performance itself is built around your occasion, at a volume that suits the room rather than fighting it, and she watches the levels all night, lifting or easing them as the energy shifts. Alexis is straightforward about who she is. She doesn't wear makeup, tends towards a comfortable bohemian style and often plays barefoot, so let her know your dress code when you book. She'll travel a long way for a gig, quoting travel time and any accommodation where the distance runs past about 111km.
On the day
Indoors, she needs easy access to power. Outdoors is where it gets useful: her rig runs self-powered for up to 6 hours, so a paddock, a beach or a backyard with no socket in reach is no obstacle.

There's also a solo and DJ option, which is the useful one for a wedding: ceremony plus canapes, ceremony straight through to reception, or the whole night from start to finish. If none of those quite fit, she'll build a package around what you actually need.
