A loop pedal turns Mark Hughes into his own backing band: rhythm parts layered live, lead lines over the top, one guitar doing the work of several. He's sung and played around Melbourne for over 20 years, from the Corner Hotel and the Espy to Yarra Valley wineries, CBD bars and restaurants and, once, a cherry farm. He's supported Mark Seymour, Ross Wilson and Daryl Braithwaite. The set leans on timeless classics and crowd favourites, Flame Trees, Brown Eyed Girl, Blister in the Sun, and he's good at reading a room: keeping the mood low over dinner, lifting it when people are ready to party.
