What to expect
Madeleine has played since she was small and has been at it seriously ever since. She's a member of the Perth Symphony Orchestra and INNEKA, and has toured with orchestras through Canada, China and Europe. On the other side of the ledger, she's shared a stage with Rod Stewart, Michael Buble, Olivia Newton-John and Eskimo Joe. Solo work has taken in the Red Cape Ball, the Art Ball at the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the opening of the WA Museum Boola Bardip. For your event, the programme gets chosen for the room and the occasion rather than pulled from a standard list, so it's worth telling her what the day looks like.
On the day
For a smaller event she brings her own amplification, so there's nothing for you to organise. Bigger rooms with their own production are easier still. She'll deal directly with the sound technician on the day and sort the details between them. Two instruments come along depending on what suits: an electric violin, and an acoustic French violin that's a hundred years old. The choice usually follows the room and the music rather than the other way around.
Performance options
Solo violin is the core booking and it works two ways, either as intimate music for a wedding or a small gathering, or as the featured performance at a gala or a high profile night. A string duo adds a second player, and you can choose the pairing: violin and cello for the darker, warmer sound, or violin and harp for something lighter. A string quartet is available when you want a full ensemble rather than a feature. All of it centres on Perth, so mention where you are when you enquire.
