The act
One musician building the piece in front of you: flute, violin, voice and xylophone, each caught by a loop pedal and stacked live under the next. Amla is based in Reservoir, and much of what she plays is improvised or her own, ambient world music with a classical undertone and hints of folk. Then a cover surfaces: Summertime, A Groovy Kind of Love, Hey Soul Sister, and, yes, Never Gonna Give You Up. Requests are welcome if you send them ahead, and she also plays soft background sets, Latin and flamenco, classical and mariachi. For a wedding, the ceremony is where this belongs: your guests seated, a single player layering flute over violin over voice as you walk in, the music made for that moment and no other.

What to expect
One person, four instruments, and a loop pedal doing the stacking. Amla lays down flute, then violin, then vocals, then xylophone, building each piece in front of you rather than playing to a backing track. Much of it is improvised and original, ambient with a classical thread and a bit of folk underneath. Then a cover lands and the room recognises it. A Groovy Kind of Love. Summertime. Never Gonna Give You Up, of all things, and Hey Soul Sister. Requests are fine if you send them ahead. Come December, the carols get the same loop pedal treatment.
On the day
Amla travels with a speaker, microphone, stand and cabling, so a room with a power point is enough. Using the house system instead? Then one DI box handles the loop pedal, or a single input straight from the pedal into your PA does the same job. Book the duo version with guitar or harp and you'll want two DI boxes rather than one.
