The act
Joanne Grace Ku started at the piano aged four and went on to a twenty year classical career, winning the 1990 AMSA World Piano Competition in Cincinnati and debuting at Carnegie Hall the same year. She's played the Sydney Opera House and been broadcast on 2MBS FM and ABC FM. Twenty years of performance work since, weddings and corporate events among it, plus a recent pop classical album on the major digital platforms. Perfect pitch and strong sight reading mean the repertoire is effectively open, and she can pick up almost anything by ear. The written list runs to Canon in D, Clair de Lune, the Bridal Chorus, Mendelssohn's Wedding March, Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, Gymnopedie No. 1, Arrival of the Queen of Sheba and the Meditation from Thais.

What to expect
Perfect pitch and quick sight reading mean the written repertoire is a starting point rather than a boundary. Handel, Bach and Chopin share the afternoon with Stevie Wonder and Norah Jones, which is more or less the point of booking Joanne Grace Ku. Fur Elise, Ave Maria, Moonlight Sonata, Salut d'Amour, The Swan and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik on one side. At Last, Unchained Melody, Perfect, A Thousand Years, Hallelujah, Marry You and a stretch of Adele on the other. Bring her a recording of something she has never played and she will pick it up by ear.
