The act

Juliet Pang sings and plays piano at the same time, which suits the music she's drawn to: lush jazz and Latin standards, played with a light touch rather than a big one. She works in English and Mandarin, and her repertoire takes in the swinging Shanghai jazz standards that most Melbourne pianists never touch. There's a songwriting side to her too. She's an award-winning writer who has collaborated with mandopop artist JJ Lin, and she's written her own Mandarin lyrics to pieces by Clifford Brown and Roberto Menescal. Good fit for a room where the music should be beautiful without taking over the conversation.
