Chris Annable

The act

One guitar, one voice, a looper and some percussive fingerstyle work, and Chris Annable fills a room that would normally need a band. He calls it acoustic groove. The practical upside is that a big sound fits into a small corner of your venue. Repertoire runs from today's Top 40 back through classic rock, jazz and blues standards, seasonal songs and his own originals, so guests can talk over it or sing along, depending on the hour. Based in Pakenham. He'll work to your run sheet and adjust as the night moves. Needs a flat spot out of the weather, and a power point, though battery power is an option for remote sites. Permits and insurance can be sorted on request.

Good to know

What to expect

Chris calls what he does acoustic groove, and it comes from stacking techniques: percussive rhythm on the guitar body, fingerstyle playing, looping, and arrangements that end up sounding like his rather than the original. The practical effect is one person making the noise of a small band. It sits comfortably as background music people can talk over, and it lifts into party songs when the room is ready to dance. He's easy to work with on the night too, taking direction from your run sheet and adjusting as the evening shifts.

On the day

Level ground with something over it is the main thing, so the weather can't get at the gear. A power point nearby is preferred, though he's got a battery option if you're somewhere remote without mains power, which opens up paddocks and beaches and places a normal setup wouldn't reach. Nothing else to organise.

Performance options

The standard booking is solo live acoustic, planned around what your venue or event needs on the night. There's a duo version available as well, with a female singer joining him, which fills out the sound and the harmonies. Either way, background music plays between his sets, so the room never drops into silence while he's off.
