Two hours built around the Billy Joel songbook, played by a full band with proper sound and lighting behind it. Piano Man turns up. So do New York State Of Mind, Honesty, It's Still Rock'n'roll To Me, Uptown Girl, We Didn't Start The Fire and River Of Dreams, along with plenty more from the same catalogue. It's a show rather than background music, so the room is meant to be watching. And by the time the piano intros land, most people in the audience already know the words.
The piano matters here. For anything staged outside Adelaide, a black grand is what's asked for, and a baby grand or a piano shell fitted with a keyboard will also do the job. If your venue hasn't got one, the act can organise the instrument themselves rather than leaving you to chase a hire company. Worth raising early in your enquiry so the right instrument is locked in before the date gets close.
Two ways to run it. The full version is a straight two hour Billy Joel show, start to finish. The other option is shorter on the tribute and longer on the night: a one hour feature set of Billy Joel, then two sets of general party music after it. That second format tends to suit corporate rooms, where you want the show as a centrepiece but still need dancing music to carry the rest of the evening.
