The act
Ben Murphy hosts events for a living and has the broadcast background to back it. He fronts his own award-winning Foxtel television program and previously presented breakfast radio on the ABC, and he's interviewed Miriam Margolyes, Guy Sebastian, Vanessa Amorosi, Melanie C and Lenny Kravitz. Before all that, twenty-plus years touring internationally as a comedy magician, which is where the timing comes from. Galas, fundraisers, awards nights, conferences, book launches, weddings. He introduces speakers, moderates live Q and As, and keeps a complicated run sheet moving without the audience noticing the work. He also facilitates conferences and speaks on business, technology, leadership and social issues. Feature magic, roving magic or interactive games can be added. Ben has hosted enough live television and radio that a room full of people doesn't rattle him. So the run sheet stays on track, the speakers get introduced properly, and when something slips the audience never finds out. On the day
A sound check before doors, and a microphone. Handheld or lapel, whichever suits how much moving around the format calls for. That's genuinely it. Ben doesn't arrive with a truck full of gear to bump in, so he isn't going to eat into your venue access time either. Worth booking the check early in the day rather than squeezing it in.
Performance options
The core booking is MC and hosting duties for the event. On top of that you can add a feature magic or illusion spot as a set piece in the program, roving magic through a drinks or canape section, or interactive games, which work well at family fun days and the more social end of things.
