Five Australian Club Entertainment Awards for tribute show sit behind Abbalanche, and it looks the part: authentic costumes, real choreography, powerful vocals and soaring harmonies. Dancing Queen, Waterloo, Take A Chance On Me, Super Trouper, The Winner Takes It All and Thank You For The Music are all in it, cut to the length you book. It's a party, not a concert: guests sing along, dance, and now and then end up on stage with the performers. The standard show is two sets, forty minutes and sixty, and it can be reshaped around your run sheet. What to expect
Three decades of touring this show around Australia, and five Australian Club Entertainment Awards for Best Tribute Show, tells you roughly what to expect before the first note. Powerful live vocals, authentic costumes, real choreography, and the hits: Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Waterloo, Take A Chance On Me and the rest. But calling it a concert undersells it. Audiences don't sit and watch, they end up singing along, dancing, sometimes on stage with the performers. It works across every age group in the room, whether it's your first time seeing the show or your tenth.
On the day
This is a full production rider, so the venue side matters. Abbalanche need a stage no smaller than 6 metres wide by 3.6 deep and 30cm off the floor, plus a lockable dressing room for seven with mirrors, hanging space, a private bathroom and no way in for anyone who shouldn't be there. Lighting runs to a minimum of 16 cans with front wash and rear effects, LED preferred, and more is better. Front of house wants at least 24 channels and 6 sends. Three handheld radio mics come with the band, or production can use its own. Both lead vocalists bring their own stands and clips; the keyboard player brings a shockmounted Beta58; guitar, bass and drums want boom stands. Guitar runs separate electric and acoustic XLR lines, keys send either split or mono, bass sends XLR from the amp, and the kit is a Roland electronic set. Separate sends for the lead vocals are preferred, and the drummer can run in ears. Walk in and intro music comes from the band on USB, or on their own laptop.
