Some of it moves a room, some of it quietens one. Waiting for Brenda are a six piece from Brisbane playing alt-country, rock and blues, built around dobro, fiddle, bass, drums, guitar and vocals, with originals from songwriter Brenda Lee Kelly sitting alongside covers. The covers lean towards Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Billy Bragg, The Pogues, Gillian Welch, Marty Robbins and the Go-Betweens. There's a countrified indie folk thing going on, with more swagger than the description suggests. They've played bars, cafes, festivals, weddings, parties, corporate nights and council events, and the show comes with stories between the songs and a decent amount of dancing.
