Tony Kennelly writes from things that have actually happened to him, and the songs land as stories rather than as background noise. His second album, Battlegrounds, is where most of that writing lives. Live, the set is mostly his own material with covers from artists he loves dropped in among it, and the pace moves between heartfelt and upbeat across a night. He's based at Port Macquarie and carries his own PA anywhere in New South Wales. For bigger rooms he can put a full band behind him. Country, folk and acoustic listings all fit what he does, though the honest description is a singer songwriter playing his own work.
