The act
Three friends who've been playing together for nearly ten years, and none of them do it as a day job. That's the honest pitch from The Zephyr Project, and it undersells them a little. The set moves through swing, jump blues, rock and roll and pub rock from the 1940s to the 1970s, taking in Chuck Berry, The Easybeats, The Animals, the Beatles, Ray Charles, Reverend Horton Heat, Joe Cocker and Eric Clapton. They've an EP of originals that's had radio play, and they've worked Garterbelts and Gasoline, Cooly Rocks On and Greazefest. Want a straight rock and roll dance night? What to expect
Nearly ten years of playing together sits behind this, and while none of them do it for a living, the approach doesn't show it. They've worked Garterbelts and Gasoline, Cooly Rocks On, Greazefest and other major festivals. The set can go fast or slow, loud or quiet, mostly 40s, 50s and 60s covers in jump blues, rock and roll and rockabilly, plus an EP of their own tunes that's had airplay on a number of stations. What they're proudest of is being a bit different to most bands in the genre, and enjoying it visibly.
On the day
Three musicians plus gear, so the area needs to actually fit that. Power matters more than you'd think here: ideally more than one outlet, for current draw and safety. Outdoors or in, some protection from the weather. Everything else is theirs, PA, backline and lights included, and there are two PA options, a small one for club rooms and a big one that'll cover a decent outdoor field.
