Formed in Perth in late 2018, The Old Road Trio is Reuben Christman on trumpet, Hanna Kim on piano and Max Jones on double bass. They play jazz standards, and they play a lot of them: ballads, bossa, blues and swing, from Autumn Leaves and Misty through to Blue Bossa and So What. The trumpet-piano-bass line-up means no drums, which keeps the volume where it needs to be for a dinner or a reception without turning the music into wallpaper. They ask for nothing in the way of set-up, which makes them straightforward to slot into a room.

Good to know
What to expect
Three jazz musicians who genuinely enjoy the repertoire, which comes through in the playing. The performances are inventive and take a few risks rather than running the standards straight, and the overall feel is a polished one. Good fit for a room where you want the music to lift the occasion without dominating it.
