The McAvaneys

The act

Damo and Graham call it dad rock and twangers, and they're not wrong. The McAvaneys are a Melbourne acoustic duo working through the Stones, Bowie, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, INXS, Midnight Oil and Johnny Cash, plus a version of Queen with a bit of twang in it. Everything picked is something a room full of people can sing along to after a couple of beers. There's an EP and an album of their own songs, and originals like Last Man Standing and Pot Of Gold turn up mid set alongside the covers. They've supported Tania Kernaghan. Sunday afternoons in the sun and local pubs are the natural home. PA comes with them, so all they need is space and a power point.

Good to know

What to expect

Damo and Graham aim for one outcome, which is a room full of people singing back at them and a few of them dancing. Two acoustic guitars, two voices, and songs chosen because a crowd knows the words. It lands best on a Sunday afternoon in the sun or in a pub with a decent bar crowd, and it's built for volume of enthusiasm rather than volume of amplification.

On the day

They bring a PA themselves, so the venue doesn't need to supply sound. Two things from your end: somewhere for the pair to stand and play, and a working power point they can reach.
