What to expect
Two halves to a Shimmer booking. Early on it's relaxed acoustic playing, easy to talk over while people eat, and then once the speeches are done they lift it and move the room to the dance floor. The trio watch what's happening in front of them and adjust, which matters more than any song list. Their harmonies are the thing people tend to mention afterwards. You're getting three players who have done this often enough to handle the flexible bits without being asked.
On the day
They need a space at least 3.5 metres wide and 2 metres deep, plus one standard 10 amp power point. The other thing to sort early is access: if the room is upstairs, there needs to be a lift, because the gear has to be carried in. Worth a word with your venue before you lock the date.
Set List
The uptempo list is heavy on singalong material. Australian songs get a good run, April Sun in Cuba, Eagle Rock, Are You Gonna Be My Girl, Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again, Better by the Screaming Jets and Funky Town. Then it's 500 Miles, Ballroom Blitz, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bad Moon Rising, Brown Eyed Girl and Great Balls of Fire for the older crowd. Newer choices sit alongside them: Dance Monkey, Good 4 U, Can't Stop the Feeling, Bad Romance, Get Lucky, Ex's & Oh's and All About That Bass. There's a Grease medley in there too, and a bit of Nirvana and Green Day if the room wants it.
Performance options
For weddings they cover the ceremony, canapes and the reception, and depending on the timings and how far apart the spots are, they can do up to two of those in one booking. Corporate nights and private parties are handled the same way, either as low volume acoustic, as uptempo pop and dance, or a mix of both across the night. Tell them the shape of your event and they'll set it up to match.
