sFOURzando

The act

Strings for more than the aisle walk. sFOURzando plays weddings, of course, but also memorial services, cocktail parties and formal dinners, and there's jazz, pop and rock in the book when you want something less traditional. You choose the shape: duo, trio or quartet, acoustic instruments or modern electric strings. For a ceremony that means music as guests arrive, the procession, the signing, and the walk back out, with the option to carry on through the reception. A quartet sits at the right volume for dinner, loud enough to hear, quiet enough to talk over. All black is the standard dress code, though they'll match a colour scheme. Performers hold current WA Working With Children checks and the group is insured.

Good to know

What to expect

For a ceremony, the music is mapped to the moments rather than left running. Fifteen to twenty five minutes as guests arrive and find their seats, then the procession, then something under the signing of the register or a candle lighting, and finally the walk back out together. Plenty of couples keep them on afterwards for the cocktail hour or through dinner, where a quartet sits at a useful volume: audible, but nobody has to raise their voice to talk across a table. Dress is all black by default. If your day has a colour scheme or a theme, they'll dress to it as long as it's sorted in advance.

On the day

Roughly two metres by three of covered space, and it needs to be genuinely clear. Bows travel further than people expect, so guests seated or standing right on top of the players causes problems, and the instruments themselves are fragile enough that a bit of distance from small children and enthusiastic dancers is worth planning for. An armless chair for each musician is essential, since arms get in the way of playing. Power is only needed if they're on electric instruments. Everything else they bring. And if guests want to ask about the instruments, they're happy to talk.

Performance options

Every ensemble comes in acoustic or electric, and which one suits depends on the size of the room, the kind of event and the repertoire you pick. The duo is violin and cello, or two violins if you want a brighter sound. The trio runs violin, viola and cello, or two violins with cello. The quartet is the full arrangement: two violins, viola and cello. Beyond those, custom line-ups can be put together, adding a singer or a harp for instance, so it's worth asking if you have something particular in mind.
