Background music that stays interesting is a skill of its own. Sally Cooper plays sweet, bluesy acoustic sets across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, drawing on jazz, blues, folk, pop and soul classics: Moondance, Fields of Gold, Purple Rain, a Norah Jones number, a run of Beatles songs. Solo, she sings with guitar, keys and live vocal looping; add a cellist or a second guitarist for a duo or trio. She carries her own small PA and lights, and a battery inverter means she can play where there's no power at all.

Good to know
What to expect
Bright, sweet and a bit bluesy is the short version. Sally sings and plays guitar and keys, and loops her own vocals live, which fills out a solo set more than you'd expect from one person. The material is popular jazz, blues, folk, pop and soul, the classics rather than the deep cuts. If you want a fuller sound, add a cellist for a duo, or a cellist and a second guitarist for a trio. Same repertoire, more layers.
On the day
She brings her own small PA and lights if you need them, and there's a battery inverter in the kit, so a spot with no power at all still works. Otherwise, power nearby is ideal. Space needed is modest: roughly five foot square, and it doesn't have to be a raised stage. Anything booked longer than an hour is played as 40-minute sets with a 10 to 15 minute break between them.
Set List
Everything is played acoustic. The jazz and standards side runs through Moondance, Summertime, Moon River, Besame Mucho, La Vie En Rose, When I Fall in Love, I'll Be Seeing You and Stormy Weather. There's a soul and blues thread too: Respect and Say a Little Prayer, Marvin Gaye's What's Going On and Inner City Blues, Georgia by Ray Charles, Cold Shot by Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Never Make a Move Too Soon by B.B. King. Add a run of Beatles, Day Tripper, I Want to Hold Your Hand, Eleanor Rigby, Norwegian Wood, three Johnny Cash songs, a stretch of Simon and Garfunkel, Sting's Fields of Gold and Fragile, Prince's Purple Rain, Under the Milky Way by The Church, and Norah Jones' Turn Me On.
Performance options
Solo is the starting point, and from there you can add another player. A cellist, a pianist or a second guitarist, depending on the sound you're after and the room you're filling. A duo suits a ceremony or a dinner that wants a bit more body to it. Say what the event is when you enquire and she'll tell you which line-up she'd pick.
