Ricardo Steyer Choro Ensemble play it on the proper instruments, usually as a trio or quartet drawn from seven-string guitar, mandolin, flute, clarinet, saxophone and pandeiro. The result is sophisticated without being precious, and it holds a room without demanding silence from it. Guests can talk over the top or lean in and follow the playing, and both work.
For small and medium events they bring everything themselves. Larger venues and festivals need a bit more from the house: three mixer channels with phantom power on one of them, a mic lead for the pandeiro, a mic lead for the guitar which has its own DI, and a DI plus mic lead for the mandolin. Add two or three foldbacks for monitoring, access to a power point, and three chairs. Pass that list to your sound provider early.
