Probably Guilty

The act

Jazz, vintage rock, Latin, country, soul and R&B, played by four people who all sing. Probably Guilty are a Melbourne band with an unusual engine room: Lyn splits the keyboard, bass in the left hand and piano in the right, while Tristian sings lead over cajon and congas. Kim covers rhythm and lead guitar, and Arnie rounds out the vocals with a rich Maori voice. Everything is live. Nothing is on a track. They formed in 2019 and have been busy since, playing festivals in regional Victoria and South Australia and holding residencies at local venues. The sound gear scales to the room, from a compact vocal PA to a big system with two subs a side. Best suited to relaxed afternoons and long, easy evenings.

Good to know

What to expect

An easy night with players who've been doing this a long time, here and overseas. Every gig comes out differently, because Probably Guilty read the room and the crowd in it rather than working through a fixed set. The styles move around a lot: jazz, vintage rock, Latin, country, soul and R&B, all four members singing. It suits a long afternoon or an unhurried evening more than a hard dance party. And all of it is played live, with nothing running off a track.

On the day

All the equipment comes with the band and it scales to whatever you've got. A small vocal PA that takes up almost no floor works for a tight room or a restaurant corner. At the other end there's a large system with two subs a side for a proper stage or an outdoor event. Tell them the size of the space and the crowd when you enquire and the right rig gets loaded.

Performance options

The four-piece is the standard booking and it scales to the room, from a compact vocal PA up to a full system. Festival work in regional Victoria and South Australia sits alongside residencies at local venues, so both a long afternoon slot and a shorter function set are familiar ground. If your event doesn't fit the usual shape, say so when you enquire. They're open to working something out.
