Penny King has been leading her own band since 1996 and is one of the more respected voices in Perth jazz. Her repertoire moves from modern takes on standards through blues and ballads to contemporary songs, drawing on influences as far apart as Carmen McRae, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Kurt Elling. She has been a featured vocalist with the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra, appeared at the Rottnest, York and Fremantle International jazz festivals, and performed alongside James Morrison and Dale Barlow. A WAAPA graduate, she now teaches jazz vocals there as well as privately, and plays regularly at the Ellington Jazz Club. Available as a quartet or quintet for corporate events, weddings and private functions.
