The act
Moondance have been playing around Sydney and New South Wales since 1998, and everyone in the band does this full time: performing, recording, composing and teaching. The instrumentation is where they get interesting. Voices of both kinds up front, with saxophone, flute, violin and guitar behind them, which lets the band move from classical through folk, jazz and blues into soul, pop and rock without sounding like they're guessing. Jazz sets pull from All Of Me, Autumn Leaves, Fly Me To The Moon, Take The A Train and Satin Doll. The pop and dance side runs Brown Eyed Girl, Valerie, Come On Eileen, Twist And Shout, Can't Take My Eyes Off You and Thinking Out Loud. They've worked festivals, concerts, clubs, pubs, private parties, weddings, corporate and tourism events. Size the band to the room: a three piece needs about 3.5m by 2.5m, a five piece a little more.

What to expect
Everyone in Moondance does this for a living. Performing, recording, composing, teaching, all of it, and that background in classical, folk, jazz, rock and blues is why they can move between styles without it sounding like a stretch. They've played festivals and concerts, clubs and pubs, weddings and private parties, corporate nights and tourism events. Before your day they'll talk through what you actually want to hear rather than handing you a fixed programme. Respect for each style is the thread running through the whole thing.
On the day
Flat ground and a power point. Space depends on how many of them you book: a three piece wants about 3.5m wide by 2.5m deep, a four piece 3m by 3.5m, a five piece 4m wide by 3.5m deep, and it scales from there. Worth measuring the corner you have in mind before you settle on a line-up size.
