What to expect
Monty has fronted big bands as a guest entertainer on cruise ships through South America, Asia and the Pacific, and sold out rooms at the Edinburgh Fringe. He's turned up on The Voice and on the Seven Network's Morning Show. All of which is a long way of saying he's done this in front of every kind of crowd there is, and it shows on the night. Popular hits get reworked into something with bluegrass in its bones, and the room ends up singing and dancing rather than watching politely.
Performance options
The line-up scales to the room. At its smallest it's Monty on his own, working loops and a stomp box like a one man band. Add a double bass or a fiddle for a duo. A trio brings double bass and fiddle, drums or both. At the top end there's the big band with brass and keys, or the supergroup format built on traditional instruments: double bass, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, stompbox and drums. Whichever shape you go with, the treatment stays the same, popular hits reworked in a postmodern jukebox style. Sound and lighting can be provided. Wedding ceremonies are covered as well as receptions.
