Pub rock, played properly. LIAR Birds came together in Toowoomba in 2023 around Meghann MacKenzie's vocals, with Phill Jones on drums, Sam on guitar and Cam holding it down on bass. Megs can swing from AC/DC to Adele without a wobble, and the setlist backs that up: Everlong, Sex on Fire, Mr. Brightside, Under the Bridge, Rolling in the Deep, Summer of '69, Cold Chisel. They stay close to the originals while still sounding like themselves. Three metres square and one power point is their bare minimum, though a full stage gets filled. Smaller solo or duo formats can cover canapes before the band kicks in.

What to expect
Pub rock, played by people who clearly enjoy it. Meghann MacKenzie fronts it and her range is the headline act: she'll go from AC/DC to Adele in the same set without a wobble. Behind her, Phill reproduces songs from memory and puts his own feel through the beat, Sam has two decades on guitar including eight years playing shows in Las Vegas, and Cam covers bass, keys and vocals with enough agility to swing between Screaming Jets and the Bee Gees. The setlist runs modern classics, rock anthems through to soulful ballads and disco. They stay true to the originals but adapt the energy to the room, and the banter between songs is half the fun.
On the day
Three metres by three, with one standard power point, is the absolute floor. They'll make that work. But give them a proper stage and they'll fill it without any trouble at all, so don't feel you need to keep them boxed in.
Performance options
The full band isn't the only option. If your day starts with canapes on the lawn and moves into a ballroom later, they can send a solo or a duo out for the early part and then bring the whole band in for the main event. Tell them how the evening is laid out and they'll work out which format goes where.
