Le Nuvole

The act

Guitar and cello, which is an unusual pairing and the reason Le Nuvole sound like nothing else on a wedding shortlist. Mircha Mangiacotti moves between bossa, folk and gypsy jazz. Emma Hales is classically trained and pushes the cello well past where you'd expect it to go. Italian, Brazilian and Irish heritage all feed into the repertoire, which mixes originals with reworked standards and traditional tunes: Besame Mucho, All of Me, Dos Gardenias, Cavatina, Anema e core, Hallelujah. Requests are welcome. One thing worth knowing when you plan the space, they need cover, because those instruments won't go out in full sun or rain.

Good to know

What to expect

Guitar and cello, played by two people who write together and clearly enjoy each other's company on stage. Mircha Mangiacotti slides between bossa, folk and gypsy jazz styles. Emma Hales is classically trained and takes the cello into territory most people don't expect from it. Italian, Brazilian and Irish threads run through what they play, and the material moves between original writing, rearranged traditional tunes and reworked standards. The result is nostalgic in places and genuinely beautiful in others, and it doesn't sound like anything else on a shortlist.

On the day

One firm requirement: the performance area has to be under cover. A cello and an acoustic guitar won't go out in full sun or rain, and that's not fussiness, it's what those instruments will and won't survive. So if the plan is outdoors, sort the shade or the marquee first and build the rest of the run sheet around it.
