The repertoire crosses soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, pop, salsa and samba, balancing laid back songs with more animated grooves. Senani fronts the act and writes original soul and funk music that has received radio play in Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Sri Lanka. You can choose a duo with voice and guitar or keys, a trio, or a larger band according to the sound you want. What to expect
Groove first, everything else after. Lady Jam sit in laid back soul, funk, jazz, disco and RnB, with a bit of salsa and samba turning up, and they'll take a room from listening to standing. The known ones are in there, Play That Funky Music, Let's Groove, Billie Jean, next to less obvious neo soul from Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. And Senani out front writes her own soul and funk material, which has had airplay around the world, so some of what you hear won't be on anyone else's setlist. It's the melodies and that voice that get people. They'll talk through your requirements properly beforehand.
On the day
A full PA comes with them. Access to a power point is the usual ask, but it's not a dealbreaker: they can run on battery powered equipment where there's no power at all, which opens up beaches, paddocks and gardens.
Performance options
Start as a duo, vocals with either guitar or keys, playing two or three 45 minute sets. From there it stretches to a trio, or to a four piece and up for a private function, which can cover a night of up to five hours and comes with the full PA included. Which size you want depends on how much dance floor you're trying to fill.
