The act
Seventeen instruments on stage, one person playing them. Jay Hoad's one man band show is built around his own material, and the range of it explains why he's been booked so widely: WOMAD, Big Day Out, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Bluesfest territory, and further afield at Uprising Festival in Fiji, the Bob Marley Music Fest and Musikfest in the States, Saarang in India and Spirit Festival in Indonesia. In 2013 he toured North America supporting the Wailers. The set can run funk and high energy, or drop back to acoustic, or move into didgeridoo and island rhythms. Covers sit in Jack Johnson, Xavier Rudd, Michael Franti, John Butler and Bob Marley country. Sound system, lighting and crew come with the booking.

Good to know
What to expect
One person, seventeen instruments, and a show that gets rebuilt around whatever you've asked for. Jay Hoad works from a cockpit of didgeridoos, Weissenborn lap steel, dulcimer, dulsitar, cigar box guitars, a shovel guitar, a Kombi chassis guitar, a wine box bass, a cricket bat guitar, drum kit, percussion, loops and djembe, playing with mouth, hands and feet at once. It doesn't sound like one person, which is most of the appeal. The night can run funky and loud, drop back to a chilled acoustic session, turn into a rock show, or move into didgeridoo and island rhythms. He plays plenty of weddings between his overseas tours, usually for couples chasing something nobody has seen before.
On the day
Almost nothing, because the booking covers the lot. The full seventeen instrument setup arrives with a large sound system, lighting and lasers, a sound engineer, roadies and transport. Management and a publicist come with it, working with you on promoting the show through press releases, hard copy artwork and any digital artwork you need sized. So what you're supplying is the room and the stage. Everything that plugs in, lights up or gets carried is his.
