A decade playing together and a friendship twice as long give Jake and Andy an easy understanding on a wedding day. The South East Queensland duo has been part of hundreds of weddings, and Andy is also a licensed civil marriage celebrant. Their formats include acoustic solo and duo music, a live rock duo and a DJ set, with announcements and additional MC duties available. They invite couples to share favourite songs, can attempt a special request and shape the selections around the run of the day. What to expect
Jake Newell and Andy Michael have been playing together for around a decade and mates for twice as long, which started in a lounge room and worked its way through open mic nights to pub and club gigs. More than 500 weddings on, they've played beaches, ballrooms, backyards and bowls clubs, driven from Coffs Harbour to Noosa, and flown to a few further afield. Andy's also a licensed civil marriage celebrant now. Their view is that a wedding should feel like a celebration rather than something you sit through politely, and the service reflects that: professional, but relaxed enough that you and your guests aren't on edge.
On the day
Four things. Space, about two and a half metres square as a rough guide. Shelter, if the weather could turn. Two stools or chairs. And power, a standard wall outlet, though for shorter or smaller events they've got wireless options instead. Everything else arrives with them.
Performance options
Music on its own, or music with Andy officiating the ceremony as your celebrant. Live, they play as an acoustic soloist, an acoustic duo, a rock duo or a party DJ set, and they'll work out which songs you like before building the sets around them. Special requests not already on their list get attempted given notice. On the day they arrive two hours early, confirm the running order with your venue manager or planner, liaise with your MC, supply a microphone and amplification for the ceremony and speeches if the venue hasn't, cue the songs for your formalities, and relocate between ceremony, canapes and reception. Their DJ set usually takes the last 90 minutes, longer or shorter to suit, and they like getting your requests beforehand.
