Geoff Achison

The act

Southern juke joints in America. English ale houses that have stood since the 1300s. Festival bills from Byron Bay across to Edinburgh. Geoff Achison has carried a guitar to all of them, and the solo-acoustic show he plays around Melbourne brings the stories home with it. It's blues, ballads and reworked classics: Polk Salad Annie, Superstition, Come Together, In The Midnight Hour, Blackbird, Whipping Post, Evie. Between songs he tells you where he's been, and what went wrong there. Set structure is yours to choose, three 45-minute sets, one or two hour-long sets with encores, or a straight two-hour concert. His rig is simple, one channel for guitar and one for vocals, and a vocal PA and lights can be supplied. Public liability insurance held.

Good to know

What to expect

Geoff turns up with his old acoustic guitar and plays blues, ballads and a few rock songs reshaped for one player. The talking between songs is half of it. He's toured a long way and things went wrong in most places, and he'll tell you about it. Set length is your call. Three sets of three quarters of an hour each, a pair of hour-long sets with encores on the end, a single hour, or one straight two-hour concert if you want it treated as a show rather than as background.

On the day

Simple rig, two channels. One for the guitar, one for the vocal mic. That's it, so almost any venue desk will take him. If the room has no sound of its own, he can bring a vocal PA and lighting with him, which is worth flagging when you enquire.

Performance options

The show scales to whatever your night is. Three sets of forty five minutes suits a pub or a function that runs long. One or two hour long sets with encores works for something tighter. Or a straight two hour concert if the audience is there to sit and listen. Geoff's own rig is simple, one channel for guitar and one for vocals, so a house system handles it easily. Where there isn't one, a vocal PA and lights can be supplied, sized for an audience of up to two hundred.
