The act
A featured moment after the wedding speeches could give Flash Poetry the room to turn guest suggestions into an improvised lyrical journey. The Philosorapper combines freestyle rap, poetry, comedy and storytelling with an electric live band. Most of each set is created in the moment, shaped by prompts, the occasion's theme and whatever is happening around the performers. Original songs from Reality, Now and poetry from The Silent World That Won't Stop Talking can also appear. Hear them when everyone is gathered and able to watch language and music take shape together.

What to expect
Nothing is prepared. Flash Poetry takes suggestions from the crowd in real time and builds whole lyrical sequences out of them, tying in your prompts, the theme of the event and whatever happens to be going on in the room. Rhythm and poetry cross over into comedy and storytelling as it goes. Behind him is a live band of jazz improvisers doing the same thing musically, which is what makes it a performance rather than a party trick. The work has taken him from festivals and expos to art galleries, corporate events and the TEDxMelbourne stage.
On the day
Nico, who performs as Flash Poetry, can work solo or bring his four piece band of jazz improvisers for the full show. The band carry everything they need, mics and instruments included, and they've got their own speakers. That said, they'd rather use the venue's PA where there is one. Audiences vary a lot: they've performed for school kids, university students and residents in aged care homes.
Set List
Most of what you hear is made up on the spot, so there's no list to hand over. Now and then he'll drop in one of his own songs from the album Reality, Now, or recite a piece from his poetry collection The Silent World That Won't Stop Talking.
