Finn have been playing Sydney and abroad since 1999, and the count so far is ten albums with an eleventh in progress. Jim Finn on vocals and drums, Paul Surany on guitar, Mike Bellamy on bass. The material is blues and R&B with the rock end turned up, played as a dance band rather than a listening one, with covers from Free, Muddy Waters, Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ Top, BB King, CCR and the Stones sitting next to their own songs. Those originals are sharp and funny about the world and the way people live in it. They won SBS performers of the year and went to Memphis for the IBC in 2005, with a seventh Irish tour in 2017. The trio can be built out with sax and keys. They carry a 2,600 watt PA and a small light show.

Good to know
What to expect
Finn are a dance band first and a listening band second, which shapes everything about how they play. The material is blues, blues rock and rhythm and blues, and the rock end of it is turned up further than a purist would like. Three piece is the usual shape. But they've got sax and keys they can add when the room wants a bigger sound, and that changes the feel a fair bit.
On the day
It depends on the gig, honestly. Every venue throws something different at them and they've long since stopped expecting two nights to be the same, so they stay flexible about how they set up. They carry their own 2,600 watt PA and a small light show, which covers most rooms without you having to organise anything.
Performance options
At its core this is a trio. From there you can add horns and keys to fill out the sound, which suits a bigger room or a night where you want the band to feel like an event in itself.
