Esteban

The act

One guitar, one microphone and a loop station stacked into something that sounds like a four piece. Esteban builds the parts live on the Sunshine Coast: bass grooves, percussion, beatbox, harmonies, then a solo over the top. The song pool runs past four hours, covering 60s, 80s and 90s radio staples, Aussie classics, reggae, R&B and current chart songs re-arranged so people actually sing along. Spanish is the first language, so Mexican and Latin sets are on the table if you want the night to go somewhere less predictable. Quiet background playing works too. Improvisation is the point, which means no two gigs come out the same. Weddings, corporate nights and private parties are the usual bookings, and an outdoor spot needs cover overhead.

Good to know

What to expect

Improvisation is the point, so no two of his gigs land the same way. Songs get reworked on the spot, which keeps things loose and means the version you hear on the night is genuinely yours. He works the crowd rather than performing at it, and his South American charisma does a lot of the heavy lifting. People end up singing along and dancing, usually earlier in the night than they expected to.

On the day

One thing only: if you're outdoors, he needs a covered area to perform under. Sunshine Coast weather being what it is, that's worth sorting when you book the marquee rather than on the morning.

Set List

One guitar and a big loop system, layered up live into guitar licks and solos, bass, harmonies, beatbox and percussion. He sings mostly in English, with the occasional Spanish version of an English song thrown in. There's over four hours of material, covers and originals both: upbeat rock classics from the eighties and nineties, Aussie classics, funky reggae tunes, R&B, and modern hits rearranged so people will actually sing them. He'll also play chilled-out background music if you want the room relaxed instead of moving. And because Spanish is his first language, Mexican music and classic Latin tunes are on offer for anyone after something less predictable, either the tropical happy rhythms or the romantic side of it.

Performance options

Weddings are covered end to end, so he can play the ceremony, the canape and cocktail hour, and then the reception party. Corporate nights and private parties work the same way. There's also a Latin DJ combination available if you want the music to keep going in that direction after the live set.
