Elissa Rodger

The act

Jazz standards, played by people who actually know them. Elissa Rodger fronts a group of professional Melbourne jazz musicians working through material like Autumn Leaves, All Of Me, Summertime, Bye Bye Blackbird, Fever and Lullaby Of Birdland. Tell them whether you want uptempo swing or something quieter under conversation and they'll pitch it accordingly. A standard booking is two sets of around 50 minutes with a 20 minute break, though set times and lengths are flexible. They can also take on short notice work, which is rarer than it sounds. Options run from a guitar and voice duo up to a full band with drums, bass and saxophone. Dressing to a theme is fine too, whether that's Great Gatsby or murder mystery. All gear supplied. Just power.

Good to know

What to expect

Professional jazz musicians, and a large stock of standards they already know, which is why short notice bookings are possible when other acts are out. Tell them whether you want uptempo swing or something more laid back sitting under the conversation, and that's what you'll get. A standard booking runs two sets of around 50 minutes with a 20 minute break between them, though the timings aren't fixed. More sets, shorter sets, a different break, all of it can be worked out to match how your function runs.

On the day

All the gear comes with them at no extra cost, so there's nothing to hire in. Access to power is the only requirement.

Performance options

Three sizes. The duo is guitar and voice for a one hour set. The trio adds a third player and you pick which one, whether that's bass, drums, saxophone or piano. The full band brings voice, guitar, drums, bass and saxophone together. Every option is built around a one hour set, and a second hour can be added to any of them.

Insurance and paperwork

Public liability insured.
