Requests aren't just tolerated at a DJ Aaron gig, they're invited: walk up to the decks and name your song. The Brisbane DJ has played everything from backyard parties to stages in front of thousands, and breaks the ice early with high energy and some proudly terrible dancing. Musically it's all eras and most genres, house through RnB, old school, classics and pop, with the room read as the night unfolds. He brings his own decks, PA, lighting and table, so all a venue needs to offer is a power point. For a bigger production, he pairs with sax players, percussionists, vocalists or dancers. Aaron genuinely likes being up there, and it shows early. High energy plus some proudly awful dancing gets the ice broken well before people would otherwise loosen up, and from there it's hit after hit with the room read as the night moves. A power outlet and a spot to set up in. Everything else travels with him: decks, PA, lighting and his own table. The rig runs a Traktor S4 Mk3 into an Allen and Heath ZED 60 mixer, with two DB Technologies Opera Unica 12 tops, a DB Technologies 615 sub and a pair of JBL EON 615s.
No fixed style and no fixed list. House, RnB, old school, classics and pop all get played, and which way the night leans depends on the room. Aaron reads it as things develop and takes requests throughout.
Pair the DJ set with live performers and it becomes more of a production. The usual combinations are DJ plus sax, DJ plus drums or percussion, DJ plus a vocalist, or DJ plus dancers, and for a big night you can have several of those at once. For larger events he works with Brisbane sound and lighting companies to scale the production up.
