Dive Bar Country is what Coighty and The Kickstands call it, and the name is doing real work. The set is high energy country rock covers picked because the band likes them, not because a formula says so: Whiskey Myers, Zach Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban, Luke Combs, 49 Winchester, plus Stuck in the Middle With You, To Her Door and Down Under. Familiar, but never quite the version you expect. They own the audio rig they use, and it's built to cover a large crowd outdoors. The lighting is programmed in advance, so what turns up is a show rather than a band on a stage. What to expect
High energy country rock covers, chosen because the band actually likes them. Coighty and The Kickstands call it Dive Bar Country, meaning familiar songs played a bit differently to the version stuck in your head. The Johnny Cash gets more thrash in it. The Alan Jackson might not be the one you expected. Alongside the mainstream names there's Whiskey Myers, 49 Winchester and Gavin Adcock, and the whole set is put together to move people onto the floor. The audio rig is professional and can sit wherever you want it, quiet or genuinely loud, and the lighting is designed to pull a crowd toward the stage.
On the day
Start with parking. They travel in a truck and gooseneck trailer 12.7 metres long, and it doubles as accommodation, so they'll need somewhere to park it plus an outdoor tap and a toilet while on site. The stage must be covered. A flat deck curtain side trailer is ideal, or a truck with a curtain side and at least 7.5 metres of deck. A built stage should be six metres wide by three deep. Power needs its own circuits, three phase preferred, or a generator of at least 10kVA. Allow three hours to set up, though five is better with a sound check.
Performance options
The standard line-up is a three piece, and there's a four piece version if you want more on stage. Where you are matters: the starting package covers a radius around Rockhampton, and anything further out changes the shape of the quote along with your play times.
