CCR Classic Creedence Revisited

The act

Swamp rock, done faithfully. Classic Creedence Revisited is a Newcastle tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty, played by experienced professional musicians who treat the catalogue with care rather than as a covers-night afterthought. Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Fortunate Son and Have You Ever Seen the Rain all land the way the records did, and the sets are rebuilt for each venue instead of recycled. Shows run as two 60 minute sets, a 90 minute concert set with an optional support slot from The Elwoods playing 60s and 70s classic rock, or a single festival set. The full concert production includes video playback behind the band.

Good to know

What to expect

Two hours or so of Creedence and John Fogerty, played by people who clearly love the catalogue. Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Fortunate Son, Have You Ever Seen the Rain: the big ones are all in, and they're played faithfully rather than reinterpreted. The band pitch it as a proper concert, not a pub covers slot, with the emphasis on getting the musicianship right. Works for a crowd that was there the first time and for their kids, which is more than most tribute shows manage.

On the day

Minimum stage is seven metres by four, with power and a dressing room. A screen behind the band is needed for the video playback. Catering for five: a bistro meal or platter is fine, with bottled water, soft drink and beer. If the venue is more than a couple of hours drive from Newcastle, accommodation gets included in the booking. A full technical spec sheet can be sent through.

Set List

Sets are built fresh for each venue, so treat the following as an example rather than a fixed running order. An opening bracket might take in Born on the Bayou, then Green River, Run Through the Jungle and Centerfield, before Hey Tonight, The Night Time Is the Right Time and Suzie Q. Good Golly Miss Molly turns up in there, as do Someday Never Comes and Up Around the Bend, Down on the Corner, I Put a Spell on You and Rockin' All Over the World. A short unplugged stretch opens the second half: Who'll Stop the Rain, then Lodi, Long as I Can See the Light and Lookin' Out My Back Door. From there the band plugs back in for Travelin' Band, Sweet Hitch-Hiker, The Old Man Down the Road, Ooby Dooby, Walking in a Hurricane, Rock and Roll Girls and Molina. The last stretch is the one everybody knows: Midnight Special, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Proud Mary and Bad Moon Rising, with Fortunate Son as the encore.

Performance options

For a club or pub night, two 60 minute show sets of Creedence and Fogerty material. For a bigger room, one 90 minute concert set with a 40 minute support slot from The Elwoods playing 60s and 70s classic rock ahead of it. Festivals get a single 60 minute set.
