Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Fred Astaire and Ella Fitzgerald sit in the same set as Prince, Adele and Amy Winehouse. The two of them swap instruments as they go, between jazz keys, archtop guitar, percussion and lead and harmony vocals, and it can expand to a trio or quartet with drums and lead guitar. What to expect
Two eras in one set, and the switch between them is half the fun. A vintage standard rolls along the way you'd expect, then the arrangement tips sideways into something modern before you've quite noticed. Sinatra, Armstrong, Astaire and Fitzgerald share the night with Prince, Adele and Amy Winehouse. The pair play in 1920s dress, braces and flat caps, and they keep swapping instruments as they go, jazz keys to archtop guitar to harmonica, pianica and a clatter of foot stomp, tambourine, guiro and shaker. There's scat singing through a kazoo at some point. Occasionally a guest performer joins them for a feature spot, which shifts the mood again.
On the day
Sound and lighting come with the act, both of them proper gear rather than borrowed bits, so your venue doesn't have to hunt anything down. Give them a spot to work in and somewhere to plug in, and the technical side is handled from there.
Performance options
The duo is the core: piano, archtop guitar, percussion and lead and harmony vocals, all shared between the two of them. Step up to the trio and drums join, so the rhythm sits underneath rather than being tapped out by foot. The quartet adds lead guitar on top of that, which suits a bigger room or a night that's meant to end on the dance floor. Percussion runs through all three, foot stomp, guiro, tambourine, kazoo and pianica, and vocals are always lead plus harmony.
