What to expect
A trained mezzo-soprano voice, and the training is not decorative. Bernadette's qualifications run to a BA and Dip Ed from the University of Melbourne, an LMusA from the AMEB and the LTCL Recital from Trinity College London. She moves between classical, jazz and musical theatre depending on the occasion, and she plays guitar as well. Recent programmes include a solo recital of Bach, Schumann's Frauenliebe und Leben, Elgar's Sea Pictures with piano and again with the Maroondah Symphony Orchestra, and De Falla's Spanish songs with classical guitar. On the Peninsula she's directed theatre groups, sung as a church cantor and been a regular guest at the Hastings and Mt Martha Carols by Candlelight. Weddings and funerals are familiar ground.
On the day
Not much, and none of it complicated. She needs to be able to plug in, so a powerpoint within reach of where she'll be singing. And if you're planning to have her outdoors, have a covered spot ready as the fallback. Rain on the day is the one thing that turns a simple outdoor booking into a scramble, so it's worth sorting before it matters.
