The act
String quartet repertoire that doesn't stop at the classics. Animata play the standard canon alongside jazz, pop, rock, musicals and movie and TV themes, and if the piece you want isn't on their list, they can have a string arrangement made for it. The Melbourne quartet does a lot of weddings, playing the ceremony and then straight through pre-reception drinks, and they're practised at corporate events, working around speeches, cake cutting and running schedules rather than against them. They need a level 3 by 2 metre space, four chairs without arms, and cover from Melbourne's changeable weather when playing outdoors.

Good to know
What to expect
The quartet plays music people actually want to listen to, which sounds obvious until you've sat through a string group working through a program that means nothing to the guests. Animata take real care over what individual clients want. The repertoire covers the classical favourites and goes well past them, into arrangements of well known musicals and popular songs.
On the day
Around 3 by 2 metres of level ground, four chairs without arms, and enough light to read music by. Outdoors they need proper shelter as well, and they mean it regardless of the forecast, because Melbourne weather does what it likes. Keeping rain and direct sun off them means they play comfortably, and comfortable players sound better.
Set List
All the standard string quartet repertoire is there, and then a much wider range on top: classical and romantic, jazz, pop, rock, and music from films and TV. The list is long. If you go through it and the piece you want isn't there, they can have a string arrangement written for it, for a small extra charge.
Performance options
For weddings the usual booking is the ceremony, or the ceremony followed straight on by pre-reception drinks and canapes. They'll also play part or all of a reception, and have done it many times. Corporate functions, conventions, trade shows, exhibitions, proposals, anniversaries, engagement parties, birthdays and Christmas parties all work the same way: they plan around your run sheet and take their breaks during speeches, guest speakers, the cake cutting or another act's spot.
