The act
The point in your wedding night when the shoes come off and the whole room is jumping to a fiddle. Amaidí, pronounced ah-mah-dee, means nonsense, and that is the mood. The Brisbane four piece play fast trad tunes from Ireland, Scotland and Australia with a modern kick, their own compositions mixed with traditional sets. Lachlan Baldwin sings and drives the guitar, Davydd McDonald's fiddle holds it together, Sam De Santi plays everything with a banjo in reach, and Jack Meimaris runs accordion through stomp boxes until it thumps like a bass. You don't need Irish blood or a Scottish surname to be part of it; anyone is welcome and the aim is everyone leaving with a smile. When they hit the stage they're there to lift the roof, and that is a promise for the last hour of a wedding.
