What to expect

Aloha Baby Hawaiian Show
The act
Steel guitar sliding under a ukulele, a double bass walking beneath, and three voices in harmony: the sound of old Hawaii, played live. Aloha Baby are a Byron Bay Hawaiian cultural show and a festival favourite. Much of the singing is Hapa Haole, Hawaiian style with English words; the rest is cruisy island instrumentals. Hawaiian Wedding Song is in the book, alongside Pearly Shells, Lovely Hula Hands, Sleepwalk and Aloha Oe. Book the duo, add double bass for the trio, or bring hula dancers in for the full show. Their own rule is simple: dance if the music moves you, sing if it asks you to. A natural fit for a couple planning a beach wedding, or one who want the reception to feel like a holiday.

For outdoor shows, a shaded area is required. And if you've booked the package that includes the hula dancers, they'll need a room to change in.

The songbook is old Hawaii, and it's a long one. Blue Hawaii, Pearly Shells, Little Grass Shack, Sleepwalk, Hawaiian War Chant, Hawaiian Wedding Song, Lovely Hula Hands, Sophisticated Hula, On the Beach at Waikiki, Harbour Lights, Aloha Oe, Now Is the Hour, Pagan Love Song, Ukulele Lady, Rock-A-Hula Baby, The Hukilau Song and Moon of Manakoora all feature, alongside their own Aloha Baby. There's Hawaiian language material too: Mai Poina Oe Iau, Haere Mai, Kohala March, Mapuana and Kalua among them.
Performance options
The duo is ukulele, steel guitar and vocals. Add a double bass and you've got the trio. And the trio with hula dancers on top is the full version of the show, which is the one worth booking if you've got the space for it.
