The performance area has to be undercover. Not a preference, a requirement, and it applies whether the forecast is rain or blazing sun. Beyond that, flag anything that might catch him out on the day: parking restrictions around the venue, a performing space smaller than you first described, or no power at the spot he's playing. Those things are easy to plan around with notice and awkward without it.
