Accordion Lucy

The act

Accordion Lucy is a Highton-based accordion player.

As guests drift into canapes, this kind of wedding music makes sense because it can move with the room instead of staying stuck in one place. Accordion Lucy works from a memorised repertoire and can perform seated, strolling or roving, so you're not dealing with a music stand or a fixed setup. Her music runs from French bal musette and European polkas to Italian tarantellas, Irish tunes and Argentine tangos, with gentler options for the ceremony and livelier choices for the recessional or reception. You can choose from a broad costume collection, including bright and colourful, black and white, traditional or alternative looks, and she can learn a requested song ahead of time. This suits a couple who want a wedding with a bit of character and are happy for the music to be seen as well as heard.

What to expect

You get to pick the look as well as the music. Lucy keeps a big costume collection, bright and colourful at one end, soft or black and white at the other, traditional dirndls or something more alternative depending on what your event is meant to feel like. The repertoire is large and all of it memorised, which is why she can rove through a room instead of standing behind a stand. And if there's a particular tune you want on the day, she can learn it for you ahead of time.

On the day

Very little needed, honestly. She arrives 30 to 60 minutes ahead depending on the sort of event, and where no PA is required the set-up amounts to taking the accordion out of its case. One request: somewhere out of the way and safe to store the case while she plays, since a hard case in a walkway is a hazard and a case left in the open is a worry.
